Adult Recreation - July, August and September
We had a GREAT time at Karoke Night last month. What a lot of talent we have in our community!
There were many requests to make this at least an annual event.
This month we are going BOWLING! The date is Friday, August 19, 6:30pm - 8:30pm at Arrowhead Bowl. We love that place!
Fliers will be available shortly but if you want to RSVP now, send us email
or call 765-476-3277. The cost is $5 to pay for bowling.
In September we are heading to Purdue for the first football game of the year against Middle Tennessee State on Saturday,
September 3 at 12pm! GO PURDUE! Tickets are available for $10 each. It's a discount price we got from Purdue but we only have a limited number.
Once we receive your payment we'll send you your ticket. We are planning to meet as a group before
the game and make our way to our seats together. We've also got some surprise treats in store for those that attend! Fliers will be available
shortly but if you want more information, send us email
or call 765-476-3277.
Have an idea for a fun Adult Recreation event? We'd love to hear it! Let us know!
Aktion Club Callout
Aktion Club is a Kiwanis Club for adults with developmental disabilities and we invite all adults to get involved!
Like other Kiwanis Clubs, they do a variety of service projects for our community and have a lot of fun! The callout
for new members is Thursday, August 18 at 5:00pm at the Elmwood Church of Christ at 2501 Elmwood Ave in Lafayette.
Best Buddies Callout
In September we will be holding our Callout for Best Buddies, our program that partners adults with developmental disabilities
and Purdue students for friendship. Best Buddies is open to adults aged 18-50 who are able to communicate with their Purdue Buddy
and attend monthly Best Buddy activities. If you would like to be notified of the Callout, please let us know by calling
765-476-3277 or emailing us.
Camp SPARKS!
Thank you for sharing your children with us during our 38th Camp SPARKS! We had a great time and appreciate your support of this program. Thank you
especially to Camp Director Kristin and all of our staff: Abby, Addie, Carrie, Chelsea, Doris, Doron, Greta, J.D., Kara, Kelsey, Mary, Melissa,
and Rebecca. And to two amazing volunteers: Lucy and Oscar!
Pictures are available on our photo website.
Bark For The Arc
Join us for the Fourth Annual Bark for the Arc on August 24th at Colombian Park from 6 to 8 p.m.
Already we have more vendors and sponsors than last year! Lots of rescue groups and great information about caring for your 4-footed
family member! Last year we had over 200
dogs participate. We anticipate breaking that record too!
Don't have a dog? Want to spend some time with some very friendly dogs? We could use your help in registration to sign the dogs in and
give them their goodie bags.
Please send Milissa an email if you are interested in volunteering
or have questions.
Kids Night Out
Let us enjoy your kids while you enjoy an evening out! Our next Kids Night Out is on Friday, September 16, 2011
from 6pm - 9pm at T.C. Harris School. We'll have dinner and play games and possibly watch a movie. To RSVP please
visit our Kids Night Out website or call 765-476-3277.
New Facebook Page
The Arc of Tippecanoe County has a new Facebook page. The new page makes
it easier to post and share information with you.
To view this new page, type in "The Arc of Tippecanoe County" in the
search box at the top of Facebook. You'll get two hits: one with our new
logo in black and one with the new logo in white. Choose the one in
WHITE -- that's the new page.
Out of the Shadows...into the Light
The Arc recently conducted a groundbreaking survey of people with
intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and discovered there
are many urgent unmet needs for support keeping these individuals in the
shadows of our society. We recently released a report detailing the
survey’s top findings and outlining a broad call-to-action for the I/DD
community and others who care about the rights of people with I/DD. We
invite you to read the full report. Together we
can make a difference in the lives of people with I/DD and their families!
