Executive Director Update
It is hard to believe that we are at the end of September already. I noticed today the leaves are starting to change.

September was a great month for the Arc. We attended two football games with Adult Recreation and Superstar Social Club. We had over 90 tickets distributed for these two games. Everyone had a great time.

On September 16th, we hosted Kids Night Out during United Way's Week of Caring. We had 29 kids attend! This is up from 14 at our last Kids Night Out. This evening provides an opportunity for parents to have some time away and for kids to spend time with other kids who they do not get the opportunity to see every day. It was so great to see kids who have not seen each other since Camp SPARKS play and get reacquainted. Wabash National Corporation was our Week of Caring partner again this year. They provided us with 8 volunteers and lots of pizza for dinner. It was hard to tell who had more fun -- our kids or the Wabash folks.

The Arc raised over $35 for Hunger Hike this year. It was a nice event and a good day to be downtown.

Thanks for all you do to support The Arc. It is wonderful to work with each one of you.

I hope you have a great October. Take care!
Milissa

Building a Better Future: Planning for your child's best life!
Regardless of your age, or the age of your child, it is important to plan for the best quality of life for both you and your child. Future planning ensures your child's needs are met throughout his or her life. You want to be able to make this plan before there is a crisis. Some decisions affect your child while you are still living (like guardianship) and others affect your child after you are gone (like trusts).

We are bringing together many of the people and organizations involved in planning for the future of a loved one with special needs. This is your chance to find out what services are available to you and to talk with professionals. We hope you can join us on Monday, October 10, 6:30pm - 8:00pm at the downtown Tippecanoe County Library. For more information visit our website.

Halloween Party - BOO!
We hope you can join us on Saturday, October 22 from 6:15pm - 8:00pm. We are still working out all the fun details. Watch your mailbox or subscribe to our Adult Recreation email list so you can be the first to know.

We will also be updating the Adult Recreation Emergency Contact and Photo Release forms at this event. Everyone who returns their completed signed form at the Halloween Party will be entered to win a prize! You can download your form here.

SSSC-Jr Haunted Woods Walk
After a great callout last night, the social skills club for children in grades 2 through 5 have already planned their second event! We hope you can join us on Friday, October 28, 6pm - 8pm for a Haunted Woods Walk-- a delightful, scary tour through the woods at the Carpenter Home followed by s'mores by the fire. Please have your child come dressed in costume and shoes that can get dirty.

The cost is $3 to cover drinks and snacks. Please RSVP to Milissa at 765-476-3277 or director@arcoftippecanoe.org by October 25.

Waiting List Task Force Recommendations from The Arc of Indiana
In response to Indiana’s growing waiting list for home and community based services funded by Medicaid waivers, The Arc of Indiana called on self-advocates, family members and partnering advocacy organizations to form a Waiting List Task Force in May 2011.

The task force reviewed, discussed and made recommendations on critical issues regarding waiting lists, including how to manage waiting lists, eligibility criteria – both to be on the waiting list and to receive waiver services, strategies to help those waiting for services, and how to best utilize funds and other resources to those receiving waiver services.

The Arc of Indiana, along with members of the Waiting List Task Force, invites you to review the Waiting List Task Force Report and share your feedback and comments with Executive Director John Dickerson.

Download a copy of the report by visiting: http://www.arcind.org/upload/assets/pdfs/public%20policy/the_arc_of_indiana_waiting_list_task_force_report_%209.2011.pdf

United Way Time!
The United Way campaign for 2012 is underway. The United Way announced at the Kickoff Event that they are 1/3 of the way to their goal. Please consider making a donation of any amount to United Way.
